I had a '78 F10 wagon which I bought with either 90,000 miles or 190,000. I ran it another 80,000 with the only repairs being a head gasket and minor items. At that time I had to put in a 4-speed transmission from a wreck, which gave me another 30,000.

At 55 mph it would get close to 40 mpg, and an honest 30 - 32 at 65 mph.

The seat folded down perfectly flat and I slept in it many times. If the weather was good I left the rear hatch open so I could stretch full length.

In June, 1977 I got my first car - brand new F-10. I got tremendous mileage, over 40 mpg all the time, easily 45 on the highway! I ran the car to death, putting over 100,000 miles on in 3 years. The back hatch held two speakers in enclosures, not built in, for maximum party flexibility and was easy to sleep in if the need arose. Perhaps the best use of the enormous storage capacity was when my friend and I went on a road trip - with an iced-down keg in the back! It's too bad that bad brakes and rust took the ol' boy down. It was fabulous!

I had to laugh, I guess they were economical car at the time and still so if there was a fresh one. My friend had an F-10 Coupe and it always reminded me of a dog taking a poop. So much for the styling LOL
